Welcome to the Foundation Stage Unit & KS1
(Age 2- 7)
Fledglings, Tadpoles, Caterpillars & Hoglets
Welcome back,
It has been a super start to the term with all our children settling back into learning quickly. Our groupings are Fledglings
(2-4 year olds) Tadpoles (EYFS) Caterpillars (Year 1) and Hoglets (Year 2)
As well as myself, our Foundation Stage team consists of Mrs Barrett, and Mrs Westlake,
As a team we rotate teaching and activities so that the children work within their age phases.
If you would like to see how your child/children learn in the FSU & KS1, please feel free to make an appointment with the office and come and join us for a taster session.
This term we are thinking about 'Incredible us! Fledglings will be exploring who they live with, their families, friends and different types of houses. Tadpoles will also finding out about people who help us, especially Doctor and Nurses and comparing hospitals old and new. This will include finding out about our local Windsford Cottage hospital. Caterpillars and Hoglets will also be exploring the life of Mary Seacole who was a nurse from Jamaica in 1854. In Geography we will be focusing on the 7 continents of the World as well as locating Jamaica. In music, the children will be using tuned instruments, and will be listening and dancing to reggae music too!
Homework will be set via Class Dojo by Friday each week. Please send back by Thursday morning each week. For the older children there will be spellings to practise, Maths which will consolidate what we has been done in class, as well as daily reading. As a federation we ask for you to hear your child read 5 times each week. Reading is really important and feeds into all other areas of life. Sometimes the children may need to practise reading sentences or paragraphs to develop speed or fluency, rather than reading the whole book. It is this practise that develops reading skills. We often say that the first read is to practise, the second is to improve and the third time is to perform! If the children are able to read and talk about what they have read regularly at home, it can have a huge impact on their progress and learning. This can be for a little as 5-10 minutes per day. This term we will be changing home reading books on a Monday and a Thursday. Please continue to write in their diaries when they have read, as it helps us if we know if they are having any difficulties. The children will also bring home a library book too, which will be changed on Mondays. In class the children will have a school reading book which we will read daily.
This term on Tuesday afternoon, there will be French, where the children will be introducing themselves, learning to count and their colours. They will also be talking about our SMSC question each week. Mrs Stanbury (Wildtribe) will also be teaching orienteering skills too. The children will need wellington boots for these sessions please. PE will be on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Watts will be teaching science on Thursday afternoon and the children will have Music with Ms Squire and Wild-tribe with Mrs Mid-winter on Fridays. They will need boots and waterproofs for this session.
The happiness of the children is paramount, if you have questions or concerns please come to discuss.
Mrs Cawsey
The Infants enjoyed learning about Shrove Tuesday and making (and eating) pancakes. They followed the instructions carefully and enjoyed a selection of toppings, including lemon, sugar, syrup, banana and chocolate spread! What great inspiration for our instruction writing in English.
