Science In the Carey Federation

Science is so much fun!

It's so inspiring and engaging to observe the children’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning shine through in the delivery of the Science Curriculum. In the Carey Federation we are committed to and believe a practical, inspiring and challenging Science Curriculum is the entitlement of all our children and with both schools we have grounds that enable the children to learn and apply their scientific skills within a range of habitats and environments across the seasons.

Different types of science enquiries, within the three disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics, are used to engage and motivate children to develop an understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science. Inspiring and interactive lessons help children to answer scientific questions about the world around them and to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. The possibilities are endless.

We also believe this hands-on subject provides the perfect opportunity for developing English and Maths skills. Once they have had the fun of investigating, children are always so excited to share their findings, what better way to develop speaking and listening skills. All of our children are given the opportunity to describe associated processes and key characteristics in every-day language, but they are also encouraged to use technical terminology accurately and precisely. It is important they are inspired to build up an extended specialist vocabulary that will be used in life-long learning. Maths skills, are applied to their understanding of science, and allow a context to be given to collecting, presenting and analysing data, purpose and context consolidate skills in a purposeful and enjoyable way.

Coverage of science topics are shown in the Long Term planning for each Class page, please take a look. And if you have any scientific knowledge or experience we would love to hear from you.
