Ashwater Pre-School caters for children aged 2-5 years.

Lisa Bennett is our playgroup leader.

Dawn Barrett, Shirley Moon and Helen Hazell provide cover for sickness and to allow staff members to attend training as necessary.

The playgroup aims to provide children with a home from home environment where they feel safe, happy and confident and are given the best possible start to their school lives.

Our sessions and activities are based on the early learning goals as outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) documents published by the DfEE.  There are seven areas of learning and development that shape the educational programmes in our settings:

  • communication and language;
  • physical development;
  • personal, social and emotional development.
  • literacy;
  • mathematics;
  • understanding the world;
  • expressive arts and design.

Planning also focuses on the characteristics of Effective Learning.

All aspects of learning are presented in a fun enjoyable way at a level appropriate to each individual child.

The playgroup has been delighted to have been listed as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted during its last three inspections the last of which was published in April 2012.

Sessions

Playgroup sessions are held in the school hall.

Funding and Fees

The hourly charge for additional playgroup sessions (over and above the funded 15 hours) and any unfunded children attending play group is currently at £3.50 per hour. This is the same whatever the age of your child.

We are registered to receive DFEE funding for 3 & 4 year olds and 2gether funding for some 2 year olds. However this funding only starts from the term after the child's

3rd birthday (2nd birthday for 2gether funding). Copies of children's birth certificates need to be handed in on the completion of the first funding form as proof of age. If your child is unable to attend a session we would be grateful if you could ring and let us know so we can complete an absence form. If you do not contact us it is our policy for a member of staff to contact you to check you and your child are OK.

Once booked in for a session parents/carers of unfunded children are asked to pay for these sessions whether they attend or not. Invoices are sent out at the beginning of each half term, fees cover basic running costs (i.e. wages, rent, insurance etc.) so please pay promptly. Fund-raising is vital to our financial viability and is continued throughout the year, proceeds usually go towards purchasing new equipment we will let you know about any on-going fundraising
